A well proportioned flame Mahogany, ‘ strike-silent’ longcase by Rivers &Sons, Cornhill, London. The classic London case with quarter fluted columns either side of the long arched trunk door.The base with a raised panel and classic London double plinth. The hood has a double arched with silk backed fret work and matching sound frets to the sides and fluted pillars with brass reeding. The full brass and enamelled dial signed with the makers name and the addition of, Successor to Daniel St’ Leu, Watchmaker to her majesty. A large five knopped pillar movement with Brass cased weights and pendulum Bob, Striking the Hours on a Bell or silent at will. Listed in G.H.Ballie-Watch and clockmakers of the World, working from 1782-1815.
