Rare Giant ‘Dent’ Carriage Clock
An exceptionally large or ‘Giant’ carriage clock by the well known maker Dent. In 1852 Dent won the commission to make ‘The Great clock of Westminster’ known fondly as ‘Big Ben’ . Frederick Rippon Dent finished the great clock in 1854 and his business carried on until 1966. This fine clock would have been made around the 1880’s . Dent clocks do appear every now and then however giant carriage clocks by Dent are very rare. This particular one may have adorned the window display of the 33 Cockspur Street address (Just off Trafalgar Square). Sometimes the larger clocks were placed at the rear of the display to catch the eye of passers-by. The back plate is stamped and numbered 1897. The front plate is stamped H.L. It has a soft gong strike and repeat on demand. A stunning clock which ideally needs to be viewed in shop to appreciate it’s size! A full 24 month U.K. guarantee.
