Pendule d’Officier with Musical Connection
A fine gilt Pendule d’Officier Clock with a superb 8 day duration movement on a jeweled lever and silvered escapement. The beautifully ‘engine turned’ dial showing black Arabic numerals with minutes to the outer edge. Early style true Breguet hands with the cut out on the tip. Strike on the hour and once for the half hours and interestingly on two gongs creating a good mellow tone. The case having floral and ribbon gilt mounts and musical instruments and in the classic ‘Pagoda’ shape. Surmounted by a classical drop handle to carry. Standing on four fine ‘Lions paw’ feet. Circa 1890. If you can visit to see this clock we think you’ll agree, it’s quite impressive. This is the only one have seen with musical instruments cast into the design, which leads us to believe this may have been made by specialcomission for someone with a musical connection 130 years ago.
