Bamboo style Carriage clock – Leroy et Fils, London.
An extremely fine and rare Carriage clock in the ‘Bamboo’ style with Morrocan leather outer protective case made by Leroy et Fils. The gilded clock case is in good condition showing only minor rubbing. Particularly attractive with a good size ‘sight’ to the front bevelled glass and stylish carrying handle. The movement is of excellent quality striking the hours and halves on a coiled gong. With a gilt dial showing Roman numerals as well as delicate blued steel hands. The dial bears the maker’s name and address where this clock was sold circa 1890-1900. It’s worth pointing out the outer case still retains a part of the original label (see photos). The father – Basile Charles Leroy -1765-1839 established the company which survived the French Revolution and went on to become the clockmaker to Napolean I.`
Measurements are of the clock and not the leather case. Measurement of clock with handle up is 16cm.
