Capucine Carriage Clock

£0.00

This Capucine is a fine example of the high quality clockmakers/clockmaking working throughout France in the early 1800’s.  Made by Poursillie of Montauban (just north of Toulouse) this clock has ‘French striking’ or ‘Vineyard striking’ as it’s known – when the clock strikes the hour on the hour , in case you missed it it will repeat the hour a few minutes after and give you a chance to listen and count…ingenious!  The clock also has pull repeat, alarm, and a rise & fall dial to the front above the 12 for adjusting the length of the silk suspension.  The Capucine was a forerunner to the carriage clock and this great example is from around 1820-30. The bell to the top is what it strikes on and the speed of the strike is pleasant.  A very collectable and attractive clock!
