TREE Wall Clock
This small ‘dial’ or ‘school’ clock as they a fondly known, has a ten-inch dial signed by the clockmaker Tree of 121 Great Dover Street, London. The clock has undergone a complete ‘strip down’ clean, service and rebushing etc (see pictures) and carries our 24 month guarantee. The original dial has been carefully restored and the Mahogany case has been cleaned, waxed. The curved lower door is held with a lock and key, the side door is held with a simple latch. The convex glass over dial helps reduce reflections. There are three clockmakers working in London under the name of Tree. Charles 1881, James 1851-81 and Alfred 1869. It is difficult to be exact with such close dating and they are most likely all related, we would take an educated guess at James Tree as he worked for the longest period known and this clock dates to around 1880, but of course it could be Charles. The clock or timepiece is ‘Fusee’ and has a substantial and high quality movement with heavy lead filled, brass faced pendulum bob. A great little clock !
We used Watch and Clockmakers of the world Vol2 for the research.
