On October 3rd, 1962, the Speedmaster 2998 became the first OMEGA worn in space, when the astronaut Walter Schirra wore his personal model on the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury programme. This updated version is a tribute to that pioneering timepiece and captures the same 2nd generation Speedmaster style in modern form.

The 39.70 mm case is crafted in polished and brushed stainless steel and features a “flat links” bracelet with OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system. The bezel ring is presented in black aluminium and includes the legendary tachymeter scale with an emblematic “Dot Over Ninety”.

Beneath the brand new hesalite-like form sapphire crystal, the grey-blue dial is CVD coated, to replicate the tone of some CK 2998 watches produced in the 1960s. Along with indexes and hour/minute “Alpha” hands that are filled with vintage Super-LumiNova, the central seconds “Baton” hand is white varnished to match the transferred markings. Subdials include a 30-minute recorder at 3H, a 12-hour recorder at 6H, and a small-seconds display at 9H.

A vintage OMEGA logo is applied on the dial, as well as on the crown, while the caseback features the famous Seahorse medallion, and the engravings, “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962”.

The watch is driven by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, which is the most up-to-date version of the Calibre 321 worn by astronauts in space.

This 1966 Omega Speedmaster is the ‘one year only’ C.B. (La Centrale Boites) lugs case, sub reference 105.012-66 C.B. Inside is the famous calibre 321 movement, with the original pushers and stainless steel strap, model 1039 with 516 endlinks, all correct and original for the date of the watch. We have not polished the case and it shows a few age related marks as can be seen in the pictures. The case can of course be gently polished if you require it. The dial is in great condition having had the Lume plots tidied up by the foremost ‘Lume’ specialist in the UK. Original hands  Also note the raised polished logo. The bezel is the original Dot over ninety and in remarkable condition only showing a few age related marks. Overall we would say that this ‘Pre Moon’ example of the classic Speedmaster from 1966 is a superb watch and having an unpolished C.B. case is extremely rare.

A superb Ebel automatic chronometer. The case is stainless steel with 18K gold detail on the bezel, crown, and along the centre of the strap. The dial is an attractive deep blue, featuring bright golden Roman numerals with golden minute indices, as well as golden tachymeter markings on the outer dial. The face features elegant golden hands, a subtle date aperature between the 4 and 5 hour mark, and three subdials at the 3, 6, and 9 hour marks, with nice engine-turned dials and fine golden surrounds. The gold details sit very nicely against the dark blue, complimented by the solid steel case, which is in very good condition, and the overall result is a very well-balanced and attractive timepiece indeed.

A very nice automatic Breitling “Old Navitimer” in excellent condition, measuring 41mm across the bezel without the winding crown. The stainless steel case is complemented well by the black centre dial and contrasting white-cream outer dial and subdials. With a date aperture at the three hour mark, triple chronograph subdials, slide-rule vergraduated rotating bezel, and all the related indices markings, this watch has a very busy, decorated dial which is particularly attractive here. Solid automatic movement. Comes complete with a Breitling box.

This is the ‘First Omega in Space’ Limited Edition of the classic early Speedmaster.  It was produced to commemorate the 50 years from when Wally Shirra, in 1962 wore the ‘first’ Omega Speedmaster in space  during the Sigma7 mission as he navigated around our planet. It was his very suggestion that NASA supplied astronauts with chronographs for further space missions and that started with the Gemini program.  These are no longer available (a limited edition) and  are becoming a modern classic.  This model also has the domed sapphire crystal which is a bonus for every day wearing. The dial features a lot of the early style with raised logo and longer hour indices.  A great watch with all boxes, cards, outer boxes and hang tag. this was made in 2020 and reference number 311.32.40.00.01.001 measuring 40mm across the width as per original reference.
