A fine Rosewood mantel clock by the well know makers Paul Garnier and Henry Marc. It’s difficult to explain why this clock is so rare, but we will try. Paul Garnier invented a type of escapement for his clocks which allowed the clocks to be pendulum free. This escapement is called the Chaff Cutter, two plane escapement and was in use on most of the early carriage clocks he made. There are very few clocks which have survived with the Chaff Cutter intact. What’s lovely about this particular clock is the small viewing glass to the top, essentially showing off his invention. The 'blanc roulant' was supplied to P.G. by Henry Marc. A blanc roulant is a movement sold to a clockmaker to finish with his or her escapement of choice. The clock is quite sall and constructed of Rosewood with fine boxwood inlays and marquetry work. The dial is a mellowed gold colour and the hands are the original and quite unique. A very rare and attractive clock. Quite possibly 1830 to 1850.

In the many years we have been dealing in fine clocks we have only ever seen two of these . A beautiful small clock which has Day and Date sub-dials too (In French ) signed Valogne of Paris who was recorded working around the mid 1800's and produced fine clocks for retail in London and Paris. It is recorded that Valogne was supplying amongst others the firm of Dent in London. in 1877 Valogne, described as an horloger à Londres, was introduced to the Chambre Syndicale de l'Horlogerie Paris by none other than Alfred Drocourt as a possible 'member adherent', at the time Drocourt was also supplying Dent with carriage clocks too. The design of this particular clock is like no other and is a rare find. The enamelled dial is close to perfect with only a couple of very minor dots near the hand center. The case is Ebony and ebonised with brass inlays and engraved with a fine decorative handle to the arched top . Circa 1840-50 .
Sold fully restored which involves completely dismantling the movement , removing the springs , de-greasing and re-greasing , ultrasonically cleaning all parts and giving our 24 month Guarantee .

A fine and slim Rosewood mantel clock with boxwood line inlays and marquetry decoration . The round 'engine turned' silvered dial showing Roman numerals and blued hands in the Breguet style. This clock has a bell strike on the hour and one for the half hour. This clock has 'countwheel' strike which means that you can choose to run the clock silently if you wish. This early 'pendule portative' as they are known in France is a truly portable clock as it has a silk suspension, this means you do not have to worry about removing the pendulum if placing the clock in a different room. Circa 1830-50. The movement is stamped Laine a Paris and has the number 430. There are clocks by Laine in museums and collections. On the inner edge of the glass there are two very small chips which are only noticeable if looking closely, the glass is the original so we have chosen to leave it but if the purchaser would like a new glass, we can arrange that, of course.

A fine marquetry inlaid rosewood mantel clock of good colour and patina with small lenticel below the decorative handle to view the original silk suspension escapement. It has a large enamel dial with Navy blue Roman numerals and beautiful gilt hands. Boxwood stringing to all sides of the case and floral marquetry inlays . The fine French, 8 day 'countwheel' movement striking on a bell. The benefit of a 'countwheel' clock is the ability to run the clock in silent operation. Malecot a Paris were working in the early to mid 19th Century and this clock would date to circa 1860. A great little mantel clock!

A fine decorative French mantel clock striking hourly and half hourly on a coiled gong. The vitreous enamelled dial showing Roman numerals, fine hands of blued steel. A cast brass decorative bezel surround with bevelled convex glass. The case is in remarkable condition for its age and retains a very good colour, a very deep red and glossy finish . The Ormolu mounts are all the original fire gilt. Made in Paris around 1895 stamped and numbered. The clock was retailed by Harrods of Knightsbidge, possibly the finest retailer of French clocks and certainly still one of the country's finest retailer/department store. The clock strikes one at one and so on, with the half hour always just a single blow of the mellow gong. Importantly signed to the dial Harrods Ltd.

This is a very attractive and small carriage/mantel clock retailed by the well known Charles Frodsham of South Molton Street, London. The clock has a pleasant gong strike for the hours and half hours and the case is a polished Walnut, brass bound and inlaid. Standing on four turned feet with a galleried top surrounding the 'pagoda' with handle. The dial is vitreous enamel and convex with garlands of flowers painted between the numbers and also showing the original and very decorative gilt hands with the retailers name. A fine clock and quite a rare model. Fully overhauled and ready for sale.
