This is a very good example of the earlier style of carriage clock. Before the case design and construction of carriage clocks became 'standardised' with Cornich, One piece and Gorge/Cannalee, these multi-pieced cased clocks were being produced in small numbers. Auguste was an early carriage clock maker and in this particular case he constructed, it has been engraved and has the rarer shuttered rear. The escapement is also quite rare, having an engraved Balance cock and Helical hair spring reminiscent of chronometers. The clock is bell striking and repeating. The clock has had a full overhaul - in house, and the dial shows in very small letters below the six - Auguste a Paris which is also engraved on the spine of one of the plates. The maker is listed in 'The Watch and Clockmakers of the World' VOL 2 - Auguste Paris , Carriage clocks, 1840-1880. These earlier clocks sometimes had the Lions head handle mounts which are very attractive, which this clock also has and certainly from the earlier date of 1840.

A 'Gorge' case Carriage clock with enamel dial signed Parkinson & Frodsham, Royal Exchange, London. Charles Frodsham was amongst the finest clock and watchmakers in the 19th Century and was the successor to Arnold. As well as numerous other medals , C.Frodsham won the first-class medal at the Great exhibition of 1851 & Parkinson and Frodsham were Chronometer makers and produced some of the finest gold pocket watches of the 19th Century. This clock has hourly strike on a gong and once for the half hours. The case has substantial original gilding with a matt 'frosted' finish and is very attractive. The push repeat button above the enamel dial and retains the original silvered 'Platform' with lever escapement. The hands are the original and elegant against the well proportioned Roman numerals. The dial is perfect. A good investment clock. Height is with Handle up

A fine Carriage clock retailed by Klafternberger of 157 Regent Street, London. Charles Klaftenberger was in business from 1863 to 1881, he sold the finest carriage clocks of the period, he used mainly Drocourt and Jacot as his suppliers and this example has the oval Jacot stamp to the inside back plate, between the plates (see image). This is a superb example with the original jewelled lever and silvered platform escapement and the addition of alarm function. The clock is number stamped - 1452 with Klafternberger engraved at the bottom of the backplate. A good 8 day, push repeat , bell striking movement fully serviced and hand polished.

This is one of those clocks that really does have to be seen in 'the real'. We have tried to photograph it to show the two colour design. The clock is Gilt on brass and Rhodium on brass. The case is quite substantial with columns and capitals, yet still has a certain finesse. The white enamel dial is signed Last of Paris who was working throughout the late Victorian period and selling clocks through British retailers right up until the outbreak of the first world war. The clock strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong for a soft and pleasant strike. All bevelled glasses and all original throughout. Fully serviced, full case strip down and restoration and movement restoration. See pictures...
