Reference number 145.008 serial number dating it to 1970. The dial is in fine condition with an internal rotating bezel to the outer edge. The rotation is achieved by turning the top left crown.   Bevelled, polished chrome hour batons,  the sweep seconds hand is activated by pressing the top right pusher. The watch comes on a new  Black & Orange sports leather strap which suits the watch well, especially with the orange hand at the center. The dial is simple and elegant with a soft matte finish, bevelled, polished chrome hour batons, and at the 3 and 9 hour marks, two sunken subdials for the 30 minute register and the seconds hand respectively, which sit seamlessly in the dial, with the seconds hand through the centre being the stopwatch hand. The watch comes on a grey/brown leather strap with a distressed effect, which suits the case and dial well, especially with the nice patina on the hands and indices. The original, manually wound calibre 860 movement, which is the two subdial version of the 861, runs smoothly and keeps accurate time, with the chronograph functions resetting sharply, and can be both started and stopped by the upper pusher and reset via the lower pusher. It is currently receiving a full service and a clean and polish of the case, the pictures shown are pre-restoration, more pictures to follow! The case measures 40mm in length from the lugs, 35mm in diameter not including the crown or pushers (38mm including), 19mm between the lugs, and 12mm in depth.

On October 3rd, 1962, the Speedmaster 2998 became the first OMEGA worn in space, when the astronaut Walter Schirra wore his personal model on the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury programme. This updated version is a tribute to that pioneering timepiece and captures the same 2nd generation Speedmaster style in modern form.

The 39.70 mm case is crafted in polished and brushed stainless steel and features a “flat links” bracelet with OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system. The bezel ring is presented in black aluminium and includes the legendary tachymeter scale with an emblematic “Dot Over Ninety”.

Beneath the brand new hesalite-like form sapphire crystal, the grey-blue dial is CVD coated, to replicate the tone of some CK 2998 watches produced in the 1960s. Along with indexes and hour/minute “Alpha” hands that are filled with vintage Super-LumiNova, the central seconds “Baton” hand is white varnished to match the transferred markings. An excellent vintage watch from1970.  It's worth noting that this watch is not using the later 1000 series 'cheaper' movements.

This 1966 Omega Speedmaster is the 'one year only' C.B. (La Centrale Boites) lugs case, sub reference 105.012-66 C.B. Inside is the famous calibre 321 movement, with the original pushers and stainless steel strap, model 1039 with 516 endlinks, all correct and original for the date of the watch. We have not polished the case and it shows a few age related marks as can be seen in the pictures. The case can of course be gently polished if you require it. The dial is in great condition having had the Lume plots tidied up by the foremost 'Lume' specialist in the UK. Original hands  Also note the raised polished logo. The bezel is the original Dot over ninety and in remarkable condition only showing a few age related marks. Overall we would say that this 'Pre Moon' example of the classic Speedmaster from 1966 is a superb watch and having an unpolished C.B. case is extremely rare.
