Richard Clark became a clockmaker in the town of Newport on the Isle of Wight and had a successful business in the High Street making clocks & selling clocks and watches. This clock with a wonderful 12" convex dial with original steel hands has a substantial fusee 'A' shape movement of the earlier style. The original Mahogany case is well preserved and has one side door and the lower convex door held with a latch. The surround has a good profile and is also very narrow. The superb cast brass bezel is the original and held with a lock and key which is rare to find. The glass is high convex and adds to the appeal. The clock has recently been through a full restoration of the case and movement and will of course carry our 24 month guarantee. Take a look through the pictures and if you require any further information please let us know. The clock was made around 1820-30.

A fine and quite rare 14inch dial wall clock with an interesting history. We recently purchased this and another clock from a customer in London who worked at Holborn Town Hall. A little of the history...This wall clock hung in Holborn Town Hall which is a beautiful building at 193-197 High Holborn and in the French Renaissance style built in 1879. The building was originally a Library and we know this clock was in a small room off the entrance area. It's a late Georgian clock circa 1810. Camerer Cuss were just around the corner on Oxford Street and we could guess that they either supplied the clock or looked after it and restored it over the years. Holborn town hall was moved to a more 'modern' 1970's style building opposite King's Cross Station and the beautiful building near the end of Oxford Street was sold to a private company. You can view the Old Town Hall on Google maps. The clock or timepiece ( as it's not a striking clock ) is one of the best we have ever offered for sale. The movement has been fully overhauled and the case tidied and waxed. A point of note is the very domed dial and matching convex glass. A fine example of the classic 'trunk' dial wall clock.

An extremely early fusee 'trunk' dial wall clock (timepiece) William Purser was working from 1780 and he would have made this circa 1800. The case is constructed of a Cuban mahogany and has the original wax finish. The lower trunk door is held with a lock and key. The brass bezel has a wonderful profile and is fitted with what looks like the original convex glass. The bezel lock was removed some time ago but has been fitted with a more reliable latch! The restored dial shows Roman numerals and outer Arabic's. The hands are rather special too, a period design and both original. The proportions are perfect, allowing for a longer flat brass rod pendulum.

William Watkins was born in January 1826 and became a clockmaker in the town of Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales. This fine clock with a wonderful 12" convex dial and original blued steel hands has a substantial fusee movement in quite a unique shape. The Mahogany case is well preserved and has two side doors and the lower convex door held with a lock and key. The cast brass bezel is the original and held with a latch. The photos really don't quite get across how attractive this wall clock is. If you can pop in to our shop and see this in real life ...we don't think you'll be walking out empty handed!
