An exceptionally large or ‘Giant’ carriage clock by the well known retailer Martin & Co and made for them by Drocourt. Extraordinarily this clock also retains the original outer leather case and Key which are both numbered 9217 to match. The back plate is stamped with the Drocourt oval and numbered 9217. Alfred and Pierre Drocourt were superb clockmakers and had a factory in Saint-Nicolas-d’Aliermont, which was regarded as the most important town for carriage clock production and manufacturing. The majority of their clocks would go to their Paris premises and be dispersed amongst the world’s top retailers of that time, Martin & Co being one of them based in Cheltenham, UK. They exhibited at the major exhibitions winning a bronze medal at Paris 1867, the Silver at Paris 1878 and the gold at Paris in 1889. The son, Alfred, succeeded his father Pierre sometime in the 1870’s. This clock has a mellow gong strike for the hours and push repeat (the little button at the top) to repeat at will. The clock is running for a week on a wind of the key . The top of the carry is inscribed … To The Rev’d T.P.Little, from the Parishioners of Orenhall and Pauntley 1883 (dating the clock exactly) This clock has now been fully restored and serviced. A fine gilded ‘gorge’ cased carriage clock by the famous Henri Jacot . We have sold hundreds of high quality carriage clocks over the years, but Henri Jacot carriage clocks are perhaps the most reliable of them all ! Serial number 14974 and stamped between the plates with the Henri Jacot oval stamp and the H.J.Parrot stamp to the backplate. The clock retains its original high quality silvered platform and jewelled lever escapement and strikes on a soft French gong for the hours and half hours. The perfect vitreous enamel dial features Roman numerals with the typical inner Jacot ring and the original blued steel hands. The rear of the dial is signed with the H.J. this was painted on by the dial makers and numbered to match the clock. Thick bevelled glass to all sides. A fine substantial clock and good investment grade Jacot with the original numbered Travel Case and Key.

A fine Bracket clock of small proportions with an original enamel dial signed Brockbanks & Atkins of London within the Roman numerals.  The case is in highly figured Mahogany with carved areas a cast bezel and with bezel lock.  The twin fusee movement is of high quality and typical of Brockbank and Atkins workmanship, The name is also engraved on the rear of movement under the bell. It has the hourly Bell strike and is wound once a week. Circa 1860-70.  Standing 39cm high , 18cm wide and 11cm deep.

A fine, rare and substantial British twin chain fusee carriage clock. The dial mask is beautifully engraved, the clock is quarter striking on two gongs and strikes the Hours on one. The rear shows a lockable, shuttered plate, the Base is signed Francis Drury and stamped F.D. in two places. Francis Drury F.D. is listed in the book of Clock & Watchmakers rather unassumingly. We have seen the F.D. stamp on many French and British clock gongs over the years and had not realised the stamp F.D was in fact a patent. Francis Drury who was part of the Drury family of clockmakers and invented the “new bell” essentially a coiled piece of hardened steel. The escapement is unusual and although not a ‘detent’ escapement, it is very high quality lever with a chronometer style ‘staple’ balance wheel.

A very rare carriage clock indeed ! The engraved original gilt bronze case case is surmounted by a decorative chased carrying handle and fine slotted finials. The beautifully engraved and gilded dial is framed by a gilt ‘mask’ with fine Roman numerals, foliate centre, and blued steel ‘fleur de lys’ hands. The twin train movement with highly unusual British escapement with engraved balance cock, mono-metallic balance wheel and ‘under-slung’ lever with the escape wheel. The rear of the clock shows an engraved door and engraving to the inside reading Howell & James, Regent Street, London. The original outer case and original engraved key to the inner lid.  It’s very likely from the workshops of the fashionable, Somerset born clockmaker Thomas Cole.  The contruction, engraving and also the style of outer case with Blue velet interior makes it likely of Cole construction for Howell & James to retail. A fine Bracket clock of small proportions with a convex dial signed Charles Pratt of London. This clock really does need to be seen to fully appreciate the small size. A wonderful brass inlaid Mahogany case with an engraved cast bezel above the arch , cast Pineapple finial and standing on polished brass ball feet. The twin fusee movement is of high quality and typical of Charles Pratt and his high quality workmanship.  Circa 1830.  Charles was working from around 1825 to 1844.

A fine Rosewood Bracket clock with silvered dial showing two subsidery dials in the arch, one for Strike & Silent and one for Rise & Fall regulation. A substantial twin fusee movement with pull repeat and striking the hour on a bell. The Rosewood case is in superb condition and standing on carved Egyptian style feet, velvet lined brass fishscale sound frets to the sides. To the back door a glass aperature to see the movement and pendulum swing within. The dial signed Ellicott & Smith of the Royal Excvhange, London.  Edward Ellicott wasa thye son of John Ellicott who was the clockmaker to King George III. John Ellicotts father was also a clockmaker and was admitted to the clockmakers company in 1696.  The movement is running for a week on a full wind. Standing 39cm high including the finial, 16cm wide and 11cm deep.

A fine Sienna marble, French mantel clock with ‘8 day’ duration movement and bell striking on the hours and half hours which can be silenced if required. Sienna marble clocks are extremely rare and the last one we had around 15 years ago sold within a week! This clock most likely dates to around 1870 and has a slim profile which makes it an ideal size for Mantel’s. The clear white vitreous enamel dial is near perfect and the ‘moon’ hands are original too. The Malachite inlaid Urn to the front panel is bordered with a dark grey Marble and the Red sections are Griotte Marble – getting it’s name from the Morello (Griotte) Cherry. A stunning piece.
