A fine Sienna marble, French mantel clock with '8 day' duration movement and bell striking on the hours and half hours which can be silenced if required. Sienna marble clocks are extremely rare and the last one we had around 15 years ago sold very quickly. This clock most likely dates to around 1870 and has a slim profile which makes it an ideal size for most Mantel's. The white vitreous enamel dial is near perfect and the 'moon' hands are original too. The Malachite inlaid Urn to the front panel is bordered with a dark grey Marble and the Red sections are Griotte Marble - getting it's name from the Morello (Griotte) Cherry. A stunning piece. 8 day duration and fully serviced and sold with a 24month guarantee.

In the world of horology, every now and then a clock will take your breath away, this is one of them! A rare 'giant' or large Carriage clock in the 'Corniche' case design with beautifully engraved dial mask. Bryson & Son were in business in Edinburgh from 1844 to 1900 after which Hamilton & Inches took over and are still trading there to this day on Princes Street. Robert Bryson, both junior and senior were highly respected clockmakers with Robert Senior being the clock and watchmaker to Queen Victoria. This fine clock was made in the workshops of Drocourt, Paris and bears the Drocourt stamp. Most large clockmakers of the late 1900's had a contract with one of the large, high quality Carriage clock makers in France and could then sign their clocks, like this one, Bryson & Son, Paris. This fine clock has now been fully restored and is best viewed in our shop to appreciate the proportions and quality. The movement has repeat function so you can hear the last hour in the dark, activated through the button to the top and has an alarm function. We would imagine this clock being a 'special order' for a large room or even the window display of Bryson's Shop window on Princes Street as the size would make rather impractical as a travel clock! Sold with a two year guarantee and can be delivered almost anywhere in the world.

A fine mahogany bracket clock made by Thomas Moss of London. Moss was recorded as working at 24 Ludgate Street from 1775-1823, this clock, in the Regency style, would've been made around 1820. The original convex dial is cream enamel with the maker's name and city, and the number of the clock, 271, as well as Roman numerals, brass hands, and the convex glass cover and brass bezel, unlocked by a key to the right hand side. The mahogany archtop case is in good condition, standing on adjustable brass ball feet, with eboinsed marquetry to the front and red velvet lined brass fishscale sound frets to the sides. To the back door a glass aperature to see the movement and pendulum swing within. The movement a twin fusee, running for 8 days on a full wind and striking on a bell, with a strike silent lever and pull repeat on a cord. A good-sized bracket clock, standing 40cm high including the handle, 25cm wide and 16cm deep.

A good size miniature carriage clock with beautiful 'mock' tortoise shell case. The classic Art Nouveau inspired carry handle, hinge, bun feet and bezel are all solid silver. The hallmarks on the handle and hinge tell us that it was made by William Comyns Silversmiths of London, in 1908. The case is in good condition with a slight crack to the rear door (which has been professionally repaired) The enamel dial is in excellent condition with only a hairline at the 4 o'clock position, delicate hands and Roman numerals. The movement has been fully overhauled and runs for a week once fully wound.

A very attractive single fusee carriage timepiece in an engraved, original gilt bronze case, the top, front, and sides inset with malachite gemstone panels with particularly nice banded patterns on display, framed by gilded plates with foliate engraving. The case is surmounted by a decorative chased carrying handle, and to the rear a jousting knight on horseback engraved into the back door. The beautifully engraved and silvered dial is framed by a gilt engraved 'mask' with Roman numerals, foliate centre, and blued steel hands. The single chain fusee movement and maintaining power will run for a week on a single wind. It’s very likely from the workshops of the fashionable, Somerset born clockmaker Thomas Cole. The rear of the dial is signed Cottebrune of Dean Street, Soho. In the book about Thomas Cole we have found similar examples to this one but without the Malachite panels. The engraving and multilayered construction is almost identical to another Cole clock we have in stock. The addition of the Malachite on this clock really does make it quite unique. Charles Cottebrune of 29 Dean St was most likely of French origin and worked alongside other great clockmakers of the period.

24 Month Guarantee.

An excellent ‘Arts & Crafts’ wall clock by Zenith and a twist on the traditional dial clock. This timepiece was made by Zenith and features a superb quality Swiss, 18 day movement wound through the centre and very domed solid Oak dial. The 12″ dial is one piece and is in great condition with carved bezel, freshly polished, with chromed numerals and hands, chromed dots to mark the minutes and diamonds at the hours. This would have been made and sold some time between 1950 and 1960.
