Planchon Petite Mantel Clock & Alarm
Here we are showing a rather impressive but diminutive clock by the well known Parisian clock maker Planchon. The clock strikes on a soft coiled gong on the hours and half hours and has an 8 day ‘non pendulum’ movement with the very unusual addition of an alarm which is set from the rear. The Red shell case is not Tortoiseshell, it is a French lacquer/resin that they used in the period and has a deep glossy Ruby lustre. The gilt decorations are very attractive and the handle is actually for carrying the clock from room to room as they may have done in the ‘old’ days! We have had 3 clocks by Planchon during the 41 years of being in business but none as rare as this little example with a decorated bezel of ‘Diamond type’ stones. Planchon worked and had residence in the Palais Royal, Paris. We would encourage you to visit us to see this very fine little clock in the real world as it really is a little gem! Circa 1890
